One does not normally think that Chocolate and diabetes would go together. The University of East Anglia in Norwich (England) however is looking for women with type 2 diabetes to participate in pioneering research. They will be asked to eat a bar of special Belgian chocolate every day.

Women who have diabetes have 3.5 times higher risk of getting cardiovascular diseases than women who do not have diabetes.

The study is intended to find out whether chocolate with a high concentration of flavonoids can have a beneficial influence. If the study confirms the researchers’ expectations, the special chocolate used in the experiment might be found to work better than a number of medicines used for type 2 diabetes.

The special chocolate is being furnished by a Belgian chocolatier. The higher the concentration of cacao, the more flavonoids there are in the chocolate and the better the expected result.

Finding candidates who must eat a bar of Belgian chocolate every day is not expected to be a problem!
